riso prints reflective writing

original idea

I had originally had the plan to send off my images to be printed professionally at photobox and have a series of 6 images of all the edited versions (seen above) and the original, however they weren't going to arrive in time due to delivery delays. So on the Friday before the exhibition i went down to the print making workshop and did some riso prints, i didn't want to have a huge selection of images as tutors have said in the past to be critical with your final selection so i decided to only riso one image, the original.

thoughts on the different riso prints

I wanted to riso it with red ink on white paper, so i did my test prints and did my final one, then i wanted to see what it would look like on black card with red ink so i tried that next, i loved the creepy feel of this one. I also wanted to do black ink on red card because i thought the red card would look quite strong if it was being presented on it own (which is what i thought at the time). i absolutely loved the black ink on red card, it was very strong, clear and still had the sense of an id card where as the black card one seemed a little scary almost.

Why i used the riso printer:

i wanted to use riso for the same reason i used riso for my passport images, because there is something about process that makes the image you are printing feel more real and especially when talking about identity and migration the process of the riso makes more sense.

Why i spent a long time on displaying:

Because i didn't take any photographs for this piece, i was just re-using and re-purposing old images and objects, i wanted to focus more on the presentation and display. What i have learnt from my time on the foundation is that the way you display your work is equally if not more important than the images themselves. So i focused a lot of the way i wanted them to be seen in order for them to impact the viewer the way i wanted it to.
